WHY MEDIA MANAGEMENT?

 

My name is Kai Yates, and I’m a media management student at the University of Miami. I’m originally from Rhode Island, but over the years, I’ve found my place  and my passion here in Miami. Growing up, sports were everything to me. I was always watching basketball and football, and it wasn’t just the games that caught my attention it was the content surrounding them. I spent hours on YouTube watching highlights, interviews, documentaries, and hype videos. I didn’t realize it at the time, but that was the start of my love for media.

As I got older, I started noticing the shift. Influencers were popping up everywhere. Athletes were turning into brands. Regular people were turning into content creators and making full-time careers out of social media. That fascinated me. It showed me that the media world wasn’t just entertainment it was business. And I knew I wanted to be a part of it.

That’s why I chose media management. I want to be involved in the business side of content creation either helping brands grow their digital presence or building my own. Whether it’s sports media, social strategy, or brand storytelling, I want to create things that grab attention, make people feel something, and drive real impact.

Being in Miami has only strengthened that goal. It’s one of the most creative, energetic cities in the country, and the opportunities here in media, marketing, and entrepreneurship are endless. I’ve learned so much already and know this is where I want to build my future.

For me, media management isn’t just a major. It’s the foundation for the career and life  I want to create.

MY VISION FOR THE FUTURE

 

Right now, I’m entering an exciting new chapter. I just got hired to run social media for a brand new alcohol company in Rhode Island called Megladon a boxed margarita brand that’s looking to expand its presence, especially in Florida. My job is to help them grow their media presence by creating photo and video content, managing posts, and bringing their brand to life online. I’ll be doing this throughout the school year while I continue studying media management at the University of Miami.

This is the exact kind of experience I’ve been looking for. Over the next five years, my goal is to work in the media industry, creating content for companies while learning everything I can about the business side from marketing strategy to content production. I know a little right now, but it’s just the beginning. I want to become someone who understands how to create attention, build community, and scale brands through powerful media.

But I don’t just want to work for others  I also want to build something of my own. While I’m gaining experience, I plan to try out different projects, build my skills, and test out ideas. My ultimate dream is to own multiple businesses in the media space. A clothing company, a sports media platform, and a wellness brand whether that’s a beverage or gym concept are all in the vision.

At the center of everything is one goal: to run a company that helps businesses, big or small, grow their brand through creative, top-tier content. I want to be the person people trust to take their social media and turn it into something great. This journey is just starting  and I can’t wait to see where it goes

WHY I'M THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THE JOB

 

Why should you pick me? The answer is simple I care too much not to give it my all. I’m an extremely hard worker, and when my name is attached to something, I make sure it’s the best it can possibly be. I don’t take that lightly. Whether it’s my own brand or someone else’s, I treat it like a reflection of me because it is.

I take public image very seriously. In today’s world, how something looks, feels, and communicates online is the brand. I’ve grown up on the internet. I’ve watched the rise of influencers, brands, trends, and viral moments. I’ve also seen what falls flat, what gets ignored, and what turns people off. This first hand experience gives me a strong advantage. I don’t just understand the theory I’ve been living it for years.

What makes me different is my mindset. I have a passion for work ethic. I’m not someone who checks boxes or puts in the bare minimum. I go until it’s right. I’ll redo something ten times if that’s what it takes. I believe good enough is never good enough when it comes to content and branding.

Whether I’m managing social media, creating content, or helping shape a brand's identity, I bring the same energy every time: full effort, creative thinking, and a desire to get it perfect. I’m always learning, always improving, and always locked in on the bigger vision.

If you're looking for someone who will take your brand seriously, treat it like it’s their own, and work hard to make sure it succeeds  you found them. I'm not just trying to do the job. I'm trying to do it better than anyone else.
